When a watch is in for a full service, the watchmakers typically will polish and buff case parts as needed. This is an optional service and is not always recommended as every polishing of a case and bracelet removes metal from gold and stainless steel watches, thus reducing its mass and potentially making a timepiece less water resistant (especially problematic on older/vintage pieces).
